The Cars was the first band I worked while working local promotion for Elektra/Asylum records in the summer of 1978.

I was lucky to garner airplay for the band’s first single: “Just What I Needed” on WHBQ Memphis. It was the first major top 40 in the south to add the Cars to its playlist.

The Cars were signed to Elektra primarily off the heavy airplay at WBCN and WCOZ Boston.

Former KOL-FM jock and later a legend on WBCN Boston was an early champion of the Cars.

Wow… Maxanne… A name I haven’t heard in YEARS. Don’t think I ever met her. Look what a Google Search brings up.
