While driving around Atlanta while there for the 1976 R&R Convention I heard Ron Chavis on WKLS-FM. I really like his sound.

A couple weeks later, back in Seattle, we, at KZOK, had an opening for the very important 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. shift (For an A.O.R. this was prime time). The usual routine was to go through all the audition air checks that you had saved from folks who you thought may have potential. Then I did something I had never done before or since. I called the station in Atlanta and left a message for Ron. He called me back and I hired him — depute the fact I have never met him nor heard more than a couple breaks on the radio. It all turned out great. Rockin’ Ron was “between your speakers” for almost five years on KZOK and KZOK-FM.
