Norm Gregory Radio Scrapbook: Leaves KZOK, Heads For Portland, 1979

in 1979, KQFM, KZOK, Radio Scrapbook

If this was a well planned mission these posts would be in chronological order; but I am talking the clippings as they come off the pile. Yesterday was the report I was leaving Portland heading back to Seattle. Today’s post deals with leaving Seattle headed for Portland in the spring of 1979. From early 1969 to early 2000 I was in Seattle radio except for this ten month diversion in the Rose City. (By the way you can sort this material either by station or by year by using the menu below).

The Doxie scanner used to create this digital copy of a musty clipping.

What is going on here? I have been digging through My Collection of photos, news clippings and other documents from my 35 years in radio. The Collection can be sorted:

By year: 1961 • 1963 • 1967 • 1968 • 1969 • 1970 • 1971 • 1972
1973 • 1974 • 1975 • 1976 • 1977 • 1978 • 1979 • 1980 • 1994

Nice to see I’m not the only one who took a time-out in the Portland market!

Let’s see if you can get out of there in ten months!

Funny thing is: the last time I worked here (1979) my job lasted EXACTLY 10 months… and I was hired at KJR by the end of the year

We were in Portland the same time? I don’t remember that. I was at KQFM June ’79 to April ’80.

Wondering if you are finding out, as I did, that Portland was okay if you were coming from Omaha or Cleveland . . .. but from Seattle? Not so much.
