KZOK did many movie promotions . . . many at the Harvard Exit on Seattle’s Capitol Hill.

I remember seeing an advance screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Harvard Exit on a sunny week day morning at 9 a.m. with just two people (Me and KZOK music director Lori Holder) in the theater. The management wanted to do a promotion around the film . . . and had a hard time explaining, on the telephone, what it was and what it was about. Finally they said . . . “just come up and see it.” After we stumbled out of the theater into the bright sun I still couldn’t tell you what it was about.

What is going on here? I have been digging through My Collection of photos, news clippings and other documents from my 35 years in radio. The Collection can be sorted:

By radio station: KPUG • KJRB • KJR • KZOK • KQFM • KOMO • KJR-FM

By year: 1961 • 1963 • 1967 • 1968 • 1969 • 1970 • 1971 • 1972
1973 • 1974 • 1975 • 1976 • 1977 • 1978 • 1979 • 1980 • 1981 • 1994

Norm, do you remember the screening we did for Star Wars? Margot and I sat together and I recall it was rather quiet in there waiting for the film to start. I said to M, “watch this” and proceeded to whoop a bit here and there, and the pitch in the theater began to rise until everyone was talking loudly and whooping and chirping for the film to begin.

And then. It was StAR f-ing WARS for g’sake! The first run in Seattle.

It was super advance of the genre.

All of the KZOK stuff is here.

Thanks for checking in Peggy.
