Larry Nelson was one of the premiere Seattle morning show hosts for years. He joined KOMO as the afternoon guy in 1967 (coming from KFKF, Bellevue, WA, I believe). Larry moved to mornings shortly there after and reign at the KOMO Good Morning Show Breakfast Table until his retirement in 1997.
As I come down to bottom of my cassette tape collection I found his ambiguously labeled tape which turned out to be a KOMO radio studio tape. One of the tapes that was in the machine all day rolling most of the time to record what ever was happening from phone calls to on-air bits.
I was able to cobble together most of the KOMO morning show on a Friday in September 1990. It includes Stan Orchard on news and some preview bits of the next day’s Husky Tailgate Party. Each Saturday in the fall, during the ’80s and ’90s, on “Your Husky Station” Larry and the gang held on-air tailgate parties before University Of Washington football games. And they were quite the production and usually very entertaining. In my opinion, unmatched as far as local radio features go. A lot of creative work by production guy Eric McKaig, voices by Bill Swartz and insights from “The Voice Of The Huskies” Bob Rondeau.
This audio, I think, is quite a rare gem.
