Tom Murphy left KJR for Los Angeles in early 1971. A year and half later he was on the move again.

“Murney” was the name he used when he came to do a summer fill in at KJRB. He had these short spots where the “program director” would come in after one of Tom’s outrageousnessess and say, “Mr. Murney, that’s really not what we need here at KJRB…” And Tom would yell, “It’s MURPHY…TOM MURPHY”…in the space of a week everyone knew who he was…what he was was a different question. I was his best man with Conkie.

Wow Ned . . . I don’t remember Tom going to Spokane. What year was that?

Do not mean to intrude, but I think it was 1965. He retired from KISN the previous year, then his recording studio started losing money. So he got back on the air. Lalo probably knows the story better then I do.
