Give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away.

The most memorable thing about the song….the above chorus
part of a song written by Paul Williams brother Mentor Williams recorded in Nashville.

The song charted at #17 on the Billboard year end survey for 1973.

Williams spent most of his adult life in Nashville after signing a songwriting deal with Capricorn, but would go on to record some tune in his later years notably the Uncle Cracker reboot of Drift Way you alluded to on your post.

I was in country radio by 1973. We had our own cover version that was a big hit, Billboard country chart #8, by a rockabilly artist named Narvel Felts. I thought it not bad at the time.
