I hear Sheldon Turner had to sue Jason Reitman to get his co-writing credit.

One other GG item:

When T Bone Burnett accepted the Golden Globe for Best Song last night, he called out to winner Ryan Bingham to come on up to be recognized. The actor/singer (whose tune “The Weary Kind” from Crazy Heart won him the Globe) was sitting in the bar. “I just got up for a second, and a friend of mine was there,” he told PopEater during the post broadcast press conference. “Yeah, I blew it.
How many critics groups awards can Oscar frontrunner Up in the Air win?

Jason Reitman’s “Up in the Air” has already won the Best Picture Award from the National Board of Review and the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics, but three of the biggest guns and Oscar influencers are being announced within the next week. The big question is: can “Up in the Air” go for the sweep? Well, yes, but most likely no. ● More from: HitFix.com

She’s immune to George Clooney’s charms

If it’s possible to steal scenes from George Clooney, Anna Kendrick has done it, and there is considerable Oscar buzz swirling around her performance. ● More from: The Orange County Register

Walter Kirn: George Clooney saved my novel

Walter Kirn’s Up in the Air is flying high on Oscar buzz—but it almost never made it to the screen. How the film’s director, star, and a twist of fate saved the project from extinction.

Last summer, I did something I hadn’t thought possible: I sat down in a private Beverly Hills screening room and viewed, with pleasure, terrifying pleasure, a just-short-of-finished version of a movie based on a novel that I’d published eight years earlier and watched disappear just two months afterward. ● More from: Clooney’s Cookie Crumbs

Up in the Air: The movie of THIS year

George Clooney’s official campaign for the Oscar has begun. The man who seemingly gets better with age has turned in arguably the best performance of his already illustrious career. Up in the Air is the story of Ryan Bingham (Clooney) and his joyless career as a corporate downsizing expert. The job carries with it the devastating task of delivering the news to workers that they are no longer needed at the company to which they have dedicated most of their lives. Using real-life employees to fulfill the roles of those being terminated, Director Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You For Smoking) presents the audience with some of the most heartfelt moments in recent cinema. The pertinence to today’s society, when seemingly every company is downsizing, makes this not only the “Best Picture of the Year,” as it was recently voted by the National Board of Review, but it makes it the movie of this year. Reitman paints a portrait of a man who must face common people and deliver what is more than likely the worst news they will ever receive. ● More from: University of San Diego Student Radio
