The two lead actresses in Up In The Air won Best Supporting nominations last week. Even though I am rooting for either to win I realize changes are slim. I am keeping an eye on their developing career.

When T Bone Burnett accepted the Golden Globe for Best Song last night, he called out to winner Ryan Bingham to come on up to be recognized. The actor/singer (whose tune “The Weary Kind” from Crazy Heart won him the Globe) was sitting in the bar. “I just got up for a second, and a friend of mine was there,” he told PopEater during the post broadcast press conference. “Yeah, I blew it. I’m sorry.”

The job carries with it the devastating task of delivering the news to workers that they are no longer needed at the company to which they have dedicated most of their lives. Using real-life employees to fulfill the roles of those being terminated, Director Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You For Smoking) presents the audience with some of the most heartfelt moments in recent cinema. The pertinence to today’s society, when seemingly every company is downsizing, makes this not only the “Best Picture of the Year,” as it was recently voted by the National Board of Review, but it makes it the movie of this year.
