It’s Almost Darlene Love Time

Each year at this time the highlight of the season is Darlene Love’s appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman to perform Phil Spector’s Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). The song first appeared on Spector’s Christmas album in 1963. It instantly became my all time favorite Christmas song. Because of the national tragedy of that November few of us were in a holiday mood. But the album went on to be a consistent seller in subsequent Christmases.

The original recording: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

This year Darlene is set to do it again this year on Letterman’s December 23rd show.

Here are some previous appearances.

2005

1995

A lot of credit has to go to band leader Paul Shaffer. If it wasn’t for his love of Phil Spector’s music this would not happen year after year.
