Oscars prediction: ‘Inglourious Basterds’ will win best picture
As all Oscarologists know, the movie that wins best picture usually wins best director too, and the recipient of that prize is usually the same person who claims the top honor from the Directors Guild of America.
Inglourious basterds
At this point in the derby, we don’t have an obvious DGA front-runner. “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” has major Oscar buzz for best picture, but it’s unlikely that DGA members will consider it a spectacular directorial achievement. Lee Daniels may be nominated for his impressive dramatic achievement on celluloid, yes, but guild members usually look for more production dazzle. ● More from: Gold Derby | Los Angeles Times

Demi Moore’s W Cover: Worst Photoshop Ever?
Everyone knows by now that magazines extensively airbrush the stars on their covers, and usually the celebs appreciate a little touchup and wouldn’t want it any other way. But imagine Demi Moore, 47, getting her first look at the latest (December) cover of W and finding that a huge chunk of her hip has been digitally removed? That’s what the folks at Boing Boing called attention to yesterday. The mistake hardly needs to be pointed out. If you look at Moore’s left hip (our right), it seems that what used to be flesh is now a great deal of white space. But, don’t worry, Mrs. Kutcher’s thigh still seems normal, though now it appears to bulge out below her sarong. ● More from: omg! on Yahoo
Inside track on the Oscars’ supporting actor race
At this point on the derby track, with many films like “Invictus” and “The Lovely Bones” still unseen, it appears that there are three Oscar front-runners for best supporting actor: Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”), Christopher Plummer (“The Last Station”) and Alec Baldwin (“It’s Complicated”).
Waltz has been ahead for the last few months and may remain there, but remember this category is notoriously known as the veteran’s achievement award (Alan Arkin in “Little Miss Sunshine,” James Coburn in “Affliction”). Two notable veterans stand out. ● More from: Los Angeles Times
